Thiruvananthapuram: The excise department has directed courier service companies to give information on suspicious parcels as part of the state-wide crackdown against drug trafficking. The companies have been asked to monitor the addresses which receive parcels regularly.

The department took the action after observing a surge in cases related to drug trafficking through courier services.

A similar case was reported in Kozhikode the other day. An investigation carried out over this revealed that the drug mafia has been using courier services to deliver banned drug products to their customers.

Following this, the excise department directed the courier companies to report suspicious parcels and monitor the addresses.

“Opening and checking each parcel is not practical. But the courier companies should remain alert to check drug trafficking. The inspection will be strengthened with the cooperation of courier service companies,” informed the excise officials.
