Drug smuggling case: CPM continues action against party members in Alappuzha

Alappuzha: CPM has taken action against more party workers in Alappuzha in connection to the Karunagapally drug smuggling case.

Vijayakrishnan, a member of the Alappuzha South Area Committee and one of the accused in the case, was dismissed from the party on Saturday. He was accused in a case registered by Alappuzha South Police of smuggling illegal tobacco products worth Rs 55 lakh.

Sinaf, a branch committee member and a DYFI area secretary, was suspended for a year in connection to the case.

The decision was taken in a branch committee meeting on Friday. Earlier, CPM dismissed Ijas, a party member from Alappuzha, after he was arrested from Karunagapally for carrying banned tobacco products worth crores. Further, it was found that the vehicle used by Ijas belonged to A Shanavas, a CPM councillor in the area. The party also suspended him following the incident.
