Kozhikode: The sale of drugs in the district is currently based out of rented houses and flats. Drug peddlers are making use of houses and flats in deserted areas for the purpose. The drug peddling groups assign one of their members to locate these areas. The house will be rented in the name of this person.

Getting these houses is easy as they offer to pay high rents. The house owners are unaware of this until the police come for investigation. Police have received information that large amounts of marijuana have been stored in the district. Officials are investigating the matter.

Police recovered around 20 kilograms of marijuana from a car that got damaged in an accident in Moozhikkal the other day. Officials conducted an investigation and seized 5 kilograms of marijuana and a hookah to use MDMA from the rented house of the accused. The house owner and neighbours understood the matter from the police. One of the accused, Safnas, rented this house.

The District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) and the police had caught drug sales based out of an apartment in Palazhi and a house in Kunnamangalam. Narcotic cell assistant commissioner Prakashan Padannayil said that an investigation was on to find from where the marijuana and other drugs were being brought.
