Driving tests of more than 2 lakh people face a bumpy ride as applications go missing from server
Thrissur: More than 2 lakh persons in Kerala who submitted their application for practical driving test along with the necessary documents, have a hit a roadblock due to server issues of Motor Vehicle Department (MVD). The application and related documents of individuals submitted during the period between December 2020 and July 21, 2021 have gone missing from the server, putting their driving licence aspirations in uncertainty.
These applicants have cleared the learner’s test. They applied for the slots to appear for practical driving test. As the validity of learner’s license is only six months, they have to undergo practical tests within the time limit. However, if the issue does not get resolved soon or if there is no special provision, then individuals will have a cumbersome experience. They will have to pay the fee again ie. Rs 300 to renew the learner’s test validity.
Interestingly, during Covid-19 period many learnt driving from their home itself. This in turn increased the number of applicants. The server issue was reported amidst this. Meanwhile, applications after July 21, 2021 are considered for the practical test.
MVD officials said that the issue can be resolved after September 30. They maintain that the practical tests can be conducted on Saturdays. However, it is important to note that only 90 individuals can take driving test in a given centre.
The applicants also are worried that an impending Covid-19 wave may further delay the process. The laxity from MVD authorities have put them in jeopardy.
