Driving license cards can accommodate only 4 categories owing to faulty distribution system
Although the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has implemented a modern driving license in the state, it can only accommodate four categories in the card. So if the individual concerned has the permit to drive more categories of vehicles, it would be included in another ‘paper license’.
Four categories will be included in the license as per the license holder’s priority. A license particulars copy will be given mentioning the rest of the categories. This has happened after the driving license system was renovated after spending crores of rupees. The drivers will be forced to carry papers under the new system. This happened due to the lapse with the centralised license distribution system called ‘Saradhi’.
Driving license was given to 14 different categories in the state including two wheelers, auto rickshaw, light motor vehicle, heavy motor vehicle among others. The authorities have not been able to clear the confusion regarding the new driving license system. An order was released earlier stating that those with light motor vehicle licenses did not need a special license for riding auto rickshaw.
A mini lorry can be driven with the license of a car. Distribution of separate licenses for goods vehicles and passenger vehicles were stopped in connection with this. However, the rule stipulated that a heavy motor vehicle license was required for vehicles above 7,500 kg. Separate licenses are required for cranes, excavator, road roller and fork lift.
People working in construction companies are required to drive different kinds of vehicles. Bus and truck drivers will not be able to have their two wheeler and four wheeler vehicles license in their license card.
Motor vehicle department authorities responded that the details that are not included in the laminated driving license will be completely available online. Anyone can access the complete details by scanning the QR code. Documents in the digital form will be accepted.
