Deceased Sreshta M Vijay-The car which rammed into the group

Attingal: Police have taken into custody the driver of a luxurious car that rammed into a group of students, resulting in the death of a girl and injuring several others in Kallambalam on Wednesday.

Binu (44), a Kollam native and the car driver, has been booked by Kallambalam police for culpable homicide. He will be produced before the court after recording his arrest and after medical examination.

Meanwhile, police said that a preliminary examination ruled out the possibility of Binu under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened.

Additionally, officials revealed that overspeeding, recklessness or gross negligence would have caused the accident.

The deceased has been identified as Sreshta M Vijay, a native of Attingal and an MA English student at KTCT Arts College.

The incident happened around 3:15 pm. The students were waiting for the bus in front of the Kallambalam Police Station. A car which came from Kollam side lost control and rammed into the group.

A total of 16 students were injured in the accident.
