Kochi: The Malayalam translation of the draft notification regarding the declaration of the buffer zones around Silent Valley National park and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across Kozhikode and Wayanad, has been published on the website, the central government informed the High Court. The central government also informed that this translation has been handed over to the state government to be published in the gazette. It was further clarified that the final date for submission of any objections from the side of people over the draft notification has been extended till December 28.
Justice N Nagaresh thus resolved the contempt of court that was filed over the delay in publishing the notification’s draft in Malayalam.
People from Kozhikode and Wayanad had come forward with the request to avoid human-inhabited areas and agricultural lands from the buffer zones of Silent Valley National park and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary. The central government that published the draft notification of the buffer zone had directed those with objections to submit a written complaint within 60 days.
The petitioners then approached the High Court seeking to publish a Malayalam translation of the draft notification stating the difficulty in reading, comprehending and raising concerns about the content of the notification that was published in English and Hindi.
