Ambulance driver S Rajesh of Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital shows injuries to Jayanthi, Anila, Ramya and Jonesy who were working in the casualty at the time of the incident
Kottarakkara: Rajesh, an ambulance driver, was an eyewitness to the terrifying incident in the emergency department of the taluk hospital here. He arrived on the scene just in time to witness the assailant, Sandeep, create a ruckus.
As the chaos unfolded, Rajesh saw Sandeep stabbing whoever intervened.

As Sandeep was being nursed for a wound on his leg, he suddenly jumped up and kicked Rajasekharan Pillai, who is also his relative. Witnessing this, his neighbour and CPM Odanavattom LC member Binu tried to intervene but was stabbed in the neck and stomach. Rajesh, who had been outside, ran into the room after hearing noises, and saw Sandeep hitting home guard Alex Kutty on the head. He didn't realise at first that the guard was being stabbed.
Once inside, Rajesh saw the chaotic scene of blood and screaming as Sandeep continued his rampage with scissors. As Rajesh tried to stop him, Sandeep stabbed him in the arm, making him to retreat. Meanwhile, Grade SI Baby Mohan turned his attention. Sandeep hit him with a chair, but Mohan managed to avoid the blow. The SI fell to the ground and was repeatedly stabbed, but escaped by rolling over. ASI Manilal at the hospital aid post rushed to the scene. Sandeep held him against the counter and stabbed him in the head. The policemen, fearing for their lives, rushed out and locked the emergency room door from outside.
Rajesh quickly took Ramya, Anila, nurse Jonesy, nursing assistant Jayanthi, and grade two assistant Minimol into a nearby room to ensure their safety. As the chaos unfolded, house surgeon Dr Vandana Das came out. Though he shouted at her not to come out, she did not pay attention.
Sandeep rushed towards the doctor and stabbed her, causing her to fall to the ground. Sandeep then sat over her and continued to stab her. Rajesh could only watch it through the half-opened door. Hearing the screaming, house surgeon Mohammad Shibin ran towards the scene. He pushed Sandeep and grabbed Vandana's leg to pull her away. Shibin then took the doctor on his shoulders and ran towards the X-ray lab. However, during this ordeal, Vandana was repeatedly stabbed in the neck, back, and spine, leading to her untimely death.
After stabbing the doctor, Sandeep roamed around the hall as if searching for his next victim and eventually sat down on a chair. As more policemen arrived and opened the door, he dropped the scissors. Meanwhile, Rajesh overpowered Sandeep, with police help. The relief was palpable, and the atmosphere filled with fear for more than half an hour was finally eased.
