Dr SVR becomes memory; a great loss for patients who trusted him for 4 decades
Palakkad: Dr SVR, who was the beloved doctor of the people of Palakkad and had always treated patients without an eye for profit, breathed his last. A skilled surgeon, Dr S V Ramachandran was a relief for the patients even during his old age. People have seen his talent in diagnosing the disease without even performing CT scan or ultrasound scan.
Dr SVR reached Palakkad in 1976 after completing MBBS from Stanley Medical College in Madras. He obtained Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) from Edinburgh University in Britain. He worked in Britain for two years and later returned to Kozhikode due to his love for native place. He worked in a hospital in Vythiri and later joined as a surgeon at Menon's Nursing Home at Olavakkode in Palakkad.
Dr SVR completed his primary education from Narasannapeta in Andhra Pradesh, where he was born. His father M K Venkitachalam was working as an engineer in Narasannapeta. He also served a short period in Sekharipuram village in Palakkad. Dr SVR used to practice at his house even after retiring from Menon's Nursing Home.
The doctor never asked fees from patients belonging to poor financial background. Though he stopped practicing during the COVID times, patients used to visit him regularly. As Dr SVR slipped to eternal sleep, the people of Palakkad lost a trustworthy doctor they knew for over four decades.
