Kochi: Popular linguist, researcher and teacher Dr Scaria Zacharia (75) passed away at his residence in Changanassery on Wednesday. He was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for the past few months.
Scaria Zacharia had served as the head of the Malayalam department at SB College, Changanassery and the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady. He is known for pioneering cultural studies in Kerala.
Recently, MG University and Malayalam University awarded honorary DLitt (Doctors of Letters) to him.
He is survived by his wife Marykutty Scaria, daughter Dr Suma Scaria and son Dr Arul George Scaria.
