Athulya
Kollam: Serious allegations were raised against police for supporting the accused in the case in which a woman and her five-year-old son were kicked out by her in-laws. Athulya, the complainant woman in the case alleged foul play over the inaction of Kottiyam police in the case. When the incident made headlines, the National Women's Commission intervened and directed the local police to arrest the accused including Athulya's husband. But the Kottiyam police have been turning a deaf ear to these orders.
Athulya and her son had to go through the ordeal when her mother-in-law Ajithakumari locked the gate and did not allow them to enter the house. The incident happened in Kottiyam here on Thursday evening. Athulya and her son were allowed to get inside only after 21 hours when the locals and police intervened. Athulya’s husband Pratheesh Lal was not in the house when the incident happened. He is currently working in Gujarat. However, police registered a case by including Patheesh Lal as the first accused, mother-in-law and sister-in-law as the second and third accused respectively.
Though the police registered a non-bailable case against the accused, no action has followed yet, alleged Athulya.
Athulya said that she could not find a job despite her several attempts. Now she aims to secure a job to look after her son. She is a B Tech graduate.
