Alappuzha: Post the double murder in Alappuzha, police conducted an extensive search in the district. An SDPI ambulance has been taken into custody under suspicion. 11 SDPI activists are also said to be in custody out of which four of them were arrested from the ambulance.
Meanwhile, the district police chief G Jayadev did not give an exact answer regarding the number of arrests. He said the suspects are being detained and questioned.
SDPI state secretary K S Shan was hacked to death on Saturday night here. SDPI accused RSS of the attack. Shan was attacked near Mannancheri school junction by a group of four people who approached him in a car. He was mowed down by the gang and hacked. The incident took place at around 7 pm.
Early Sunday morning, Ranjeet Sreenivas (40), the OBC Morcha Kerala state secretary and a member of the BJP state committee was hacked to death. The attackers barged into his house and hacked him. He was getting ready for his morning walk. The CCTV visuals of 12 men on six bikes going into Ranjeet’s house have been recovered by the police.

Both victims were state leaders of two arch-rival organisations in Kerala, and the second murder is believed to be in retaliation to the former. The District Collector has declared Section 144 in the district on Sunday and Monday. Police have taken measures to avoid further clashes.
Shan's body was taken to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital from a private hospital in Ernakulam at around 10.30 am on Sunday. The body will be taken to Alappuzha after the completion of postmortem procedures here. The postmortem of Ranjeet Sreenivas will be conducted at Alappuzha Vandanam Medical College Hospital. Police are on high alert to prevent any unfortunate incidents during the funeral and mourning procession of the two.
