Kannur: CPM state committee member P Jayarajan opined that Thalassery Archdiocese Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany's recent remarks on political martyrs are 'disrespectful'.

However, Jayarajan pointed out that remarks are not surprising and there is no need to take it seriously.

Pamplany has kindled a fresh controversy with his latest remarks over political martyrdom. Pamplany opined that there are political martyrs who died when they went into unnecessary quarrels. They might also include those who have slipped from a bridge while fleeing in fear of the police, he said. His remark met with strong opposition from political parties and leaders.

Commenting on the matter, Jayarajan told Mathrubhumi News that it is unnecessary to take Bishop's statement seriously since he made unnecessary remarks in the past. He added that Christian communities, including those in his diocese, had outrightly dismissed his past remarks on rubber prices and BJP.
