Don’t make poll campaign a battleground highlighting caste: Teeka Ram Meena
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena stated that community organisations should not request votes for particular candidates. He added that community organisations should not turn election campaign into a battleground by highlighting caste issues.
Teeka Ram Meena also said that trouble started after NSS changed their equidistance policy to right distance policy. Meena was responding to NSS taking a stand favouring UDF in the bypolls.
The chief electoral officer also gave clarification regarding the Model Code of Conduct regarding religious-community organisations. No suo motu action will be taken against NSS for their biased campaigning. But action will be taken, if a complaint is received.
Teeka Ram Meena said that religious and caste based organisations should understand their limits while being active in election campaigns. He also asked community organisations to voluntarily withdraw from favouring particular candidates in the elections.
