Kochi: Kerala speaker P Sreeramakrishnan failed to appear before the Customs officials on Thursday in connection with the dollar smuggling case. The speaker informed the Customs that he was unwell and hence could not appear before the officials.
The Customs had served a notice to P Sreeramakrishnan and was directed to appear on April 8. Though the Speaker was served notice prior to this, he had not appeared. The Customs feels that as there are enough evidences against the speaker, his interrogation is unavoidable. The Cutsoms may have to act stern as the speaker has not turned up continuously ignoring the summons.
Amidst this, the petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate against the Crime Branch will be considered by the High Court today. Solicitor general Thushar Mehta will appear for the ED. There are reports that the state government would submit two counter-affidavits on this.
