Kochi: The Customs Department is preparing to intensify the investigation against Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in the dollar smuggling case. The investigation agency is interrogating two individuals who are associated with the Speaker in connection with the case.
Speaker’s friend and the owner of his secret sim card, Nassar, and Lafeer Mohammad, who runs an educational institution in Muscat, are being interrogated by Customs officials. Nassar told Mathrubhumi News before appearing for the interrogation that he does not know why he was summoned.
The Speaker used the sim card that was registered in the name of Nassar. However, this sim card ceased to function when the Speaker’s name was also raised in connection with the gold smuggling case. It is reported that the customs department received crucial information during the investigation based on this sim card.
Lafeer Mohammad runs an educational institution in Muscat. Customs interrogated the Dean of this institution, Kiran Thomas, last week. Swapna Suresh had attended the interview that they had organised in connection with opening a new branch of this institution. Swapna arrived for the interview with the Chief Minister Former Principal Secretary M Sivasankar. It was reported earlier that Sivasankar recommended appointing Swapna for the job.
