Kozhikode: All eight persons, who came in contact with a doctor at a private clinic in Engapuzha, who was confirmed with COVID-19 from Karnataka, have tested negative for the disease.
The driver who took the doctor to Karnataka and the hospital staff tested negative for coronavirus. It is being investigated if more persons had come in contact with the doctor.
The lady doctor, hailing from Davanagere, was confirmed with COVID-19 in the second stage of testing. The result of the test performed in Karnataka on May 9 was negative. The disease was confirmed while testing the samples collected on May 17.
The gynecologist and friend went to Karnataka in a car with the driver who is a native of Kakkad in Engapuzha on May 5. The driver has been quarantined since the day he returned. Gynecology OP service was available in the hospital till April 21.
The doctor did not attend patients after this, but was staying in a flat inside the hospital compound. Later, she returned to her native place with the friend after lockdown relaxations came into force.
The hospital authorities informed that the doctor did not show any symptoms before returning home. They added that the hospital staff also had no symptoms of COVID when the OP service was available at the hospital.
The health department officials assume that the doctor might have contracted the disease from Karnataka as many districts including Davanagere are declared as hotspots there.
