Assault on doctor in Kollam: Audio clip of Congress leader threatening doctor comes to light

Kollam: In connection with the incident in which a doctor was attacked in Sasthamkotta, an audio clip of a Congress leader threatening the doctor has come to light. In the audio clip, Kollam DCC secretary can be heard threatening the hospital superintendent that he would confront the doctor outside the hospital.

Dr M Ganesh, who was on night duty at Sasthamkotta Taluk Hospital on Friday, was assaulted by a group of people including a panchayat president. A dispute over confirming the death of an elderly woman who fell into a well ended up in the violence. The conflict for hours as Congress and Youth Congress activists thronged the hospital. Eventually, the situation was brought under control by the police.

Following this, the Panchayat President Sreekumar along with DCC general secretary Kanjiravila Ajayakumar called Hospital Superintendent Dr Shahana Mohammad. During the conversation, Ajayakumar told the Superintendent that the doctor has protection inside the hospital only and that he would confront him outside if he did not withdraw the case.

However, Ajayakumar dismissed the allegations that he threatened the doctor. He claimed that he only told them that they will protest outside the hospital. The doctors' union had said that such violence was taking place against doctors in many parts of Kerala and that strict action should be taken against the culprits. The incident was also condemned by many, including the health minister.
