DME dismisses explanation of Kalamassery MCH officials over COVID-19 patient’s death
Kochi: The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has dismissed the preliminary explanation given by Kalamassery Govt. Medical College over the death of a COVID-19 patient. It is alleged that the patient died after struggling for oxygen due to the disconnection of the ventilator tubes.
In the report to the DME, the superintendent claimed that there was no lapses in treatment. But the DME dismissed this preliminary report and directed to file a detailed report.
The DME director will hold a review meeting with the officials at the medical college. The allegations raised against the medical college will be discussed in the meeting. Officials including the superintendent and nursing officer will attend the meeting.
The DME director has taken a stance that a report should be submitted after a detailed investigation. Earlier, the health minister has asked the DME to submit a report over the death of a patient due to alleged medical negligence.
As part of this, DME has dismissed the preliminary report and sought a detailed report from the medical college authority.
