Divya S Iyer
Pathanamthitta: Divya S Iyer IAS revealed unpleasant experiences from her childhood where two men had attempted to misbehave with her when she was only 6 years old.
Two men affectionately beckoned, started to touch inappropriately and tried to remove clothes, said Divya. “I could sense it was wrong and I strenuously escaped from their grip then,” she said.
Divya said she could not remember who they are now and added that not all children might have the luck to escape from such incidents.
The abuses faced during childhood will haunt one throughout their lifetime. The children should be made aware of the difference between “good touch” and “bad touch”. The support of parents is vital for the kids to go through such bad times, reminded the collector.
The sexuality of men is perceived as right while that of the women is considered as wrong. This misconception should be changed, opined Divya S Iyer. A space for women to speak about their body and sexuality is still not available here, she added.
The collector was addressing an event organised by the District Child Protection Unit for creating awareness among the media regarding reporting of sexual abuses against children.
