Kozhikode: District Collector has banned public programmes in Kozhikode due to the hike in Covid-19 cases. The average test positivity rate in the district during the last three days is above 30 per cent.

The ban is also applicable to religious programmes, Collector Dr Tej Lohit Reddy said. Meetings of all governmental, quasi-government and cooperative institutions should be held online. District Police Chief has issued direction to control crowding in beaches, hotels and malls.

Not more than 50 per cent of the seating capacity is allowed in hotels. It will be strictly monitored. The police are directed to form squads to check this. Buses cannot run with passengers more than the seating capacity.

The most important factor in containing the virus is social distancing, the Collector said.
