Dissident priests demand appointment of Administrative Archbishop
Kochi: A group of dissident priests in the Syro-Malabar Church have voiced publically their protest against the return of Cardinal George Alencherry to the governing committee of the archdiocese. The dissident priests convened a meeting here on Tuesday. They viewed the reinstatement of Cardinal George Alencherry in the cover of darkness as disgraceful.
The meeting convened to condemn the side-lining of Auxiliary Bishops, saw the participation of more than 200 priests. They also demanded to publicize the probe report on the Syro Malabar Church land deal case.
An administrative archbishop should be appointed at the archdiocese. The circumstances that led to take action against the Auxiliary Bishops should be explained. If not, they will boycott the functions and pastoral letters of Cardinal George Alencherry, who has been reinstated as their archbishop by the Vatican, the meet decided.
There were lapses from Cardinal’s part in the land deal. There are efforts to bifurcate the Angamaly archdiocese. A bifurcation like that will not be accepted. If cases are fabricated against the Auxiliary Bishops, protests will be taken out on the streets, the meet further clarified.
