Dissertation controversy: EP Jayarajan comes out in defence of Chintha Jerome

Thiruvananthapuram: LDF convener EP Jayarajan on Monday came to the fore extending support to Kerala State Youth Commission chairperson Chintha Jerome over the recent controversy about her PhD dissertation.

Taking to Facebook, Jayarajan wrote, “There are no humans devoid of mistakes. An emerging woman leader is being targeted intentionally for the sake of vested interests of some.”

The leader also alleged that the Congress is behind the move and added, “The political move to weaken those ascending towards leadership positions through defamations should be abandoned.”

Meanwhile, demands are rife seeking to review Chintha Jerome’s PhD dissertation, which incorrectly attributed the poetry collection ‘Vazhakkula’ to Malayalam poet Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon.

Chintha’s dissertation incorrectly mentions Vyloppilli as the author of ‘Vazhakkula’, while it was originally written by Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.

In addition, the name ‘Vyloppilli’ has been inaccurately written as ‘Vyloppalli’ in the dissertation, said reports. Chintha’s guide as well as the evaluators failed to notice such a grave error, they added.

The dissertation, titled ‘the ideological foundation of Malayalam commercial cinema in the neoliberal times’, was submitted at Kerala University and was awarded the doctorate in 2021. It was prepared under the guidance of Dr PP Ajayakumar, former Pro Vice Chancellor of Kerala University.
