Manjeshwaram (Kasaragod): Soon after the candidates for assembly bypolls was declared, BJP workers started staging protests. BJP state organisational secretary M. Ganeshan was held captive during the Manjeshwaram constituency convention.
Party district president Adv. K. Sreekanth was on top of the probable candidate list. But later, state committee member Raveesha Tantri Kundar was declared as the candidate. Following this, a protest was conducted in the presence of Adv. K. Sreekanth, former president P. Suresh Kumar Shetty and state committee member V. Balakrishna Shetty. Ganeshan was held captive amid this protest.
BJP workers alleged that the leadership declared the candidate without considering the interest of local leaders and party followers. They also openly expressed their dissatisfaction over the delay in announcing the candidates. Party workers from Kumbala, Meencha and Mangalppadi and Puthige panchayats also expressed their disagreement with the leaders.
