Kochi: CPI has taken disciplinary action against Piravom local committee secretary KC Thankachan for participating in the protests against SilverLine project. The party removed Thankachan from the position of local committee secretary and revoked his membership in the constituency committee.
Though Thankachan confessed that his stance was wrong through an explanatory note, the party found it unsatisfactory. The decision was adopted by the constituency committee summoned on Saturday. The committee appointed another party worker as the local committee secretary. However, Thankachan can continue as a member of the local committee.
Thankachan had informed the party that his participation in a protest in which the Congress workers were also involved was inappropriate. His explanation had urged the party to restrain from severe actions like a dismissal.
