Din in Assembly over solar issue; Oppn walks out
Thiruvananthapuram: The solar scam rocked the Kerala assembly today with the CPI(M)-led LDF opposition disrupting proceedings, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, following which the House was adjourned for a while.Opposition leader V S Achuthanandhan made a personal attack against the chief minister and this was the reason for the bedlam in the House.
High drama was witnessed inside the Assembly during the discussion held on the adjournment motion. The notice for the adjournment motion was moved by the opposition in the wake of the recent disclosures on the solar scam.
After Kodiyeri Balakrishnan issued a notice for an adjournment motion, chief minister Oommen Chandy, Home minister Ramesh Chennithala and Aryadan Muhammed spoke. After this the leader of the opposition V S Achuthanandhan began his speech. Opposition leader V S Achutanandan, while addressing the House, made some comments on the CM's family members, prompting ruling front members to stand up and protest.
VS said it is the chief minister who knows about Sarita properly and this led to chaos. VS alleged that Sarita had rights to even enter the kitchen of Cliff House. At a prayer meet attended only by the chief minister and his close aides, Sarita had taken part. VS alleged that Sarita had the right to take care of Chandy’s wife. And when VS began to speak about Chandy Oommen, the ruling front members obstructed.
VS said he is ashamed to sit in the Assembly occupied by tainted members but is obliged to attend the Assembly proceedings thinking of the people. The CM holds the Guiness record for uttering the maximum number of lies. It seems, the CM is consuming and sleeping in lies and if he does not know the meaning of shame then he must refer the dictionary.
With the ruling members voicing their dissent over VS statement, the opposition members plunged into the well of the house with banners and placards. The proceedings of the House was suspended for some time.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan sought permission to discuss the adjournment motion.
Chief minister, replying to the notice, said the opposition is taking political gains by going after Sarita’s disclosures. The opposition must think why the ruling members were not taking Sarita statement of the Left offering Rs 10 lakh as a weapon to target them. The CM said he had deposed before the solar commission for 14 hours. And during that time, Sarita’s advocate had not asked any question to the CM. Chandy said he is pained to hear about the opposition mudslinging just to get political mileage.
Kodiyeri said the CM fears investigation and the opposition is not protesting against Sarita’s disclosures but on the revelations made some prominent leaders.
Home minister Ramesh Chennithala speaking during the motion said no case has been booked against any ministers based on the disclosures and one must wait till the solar commission report comes out.
When the House convened in the morning, opposition was up in arms and sought the resignation of the chief minister by displaying banners. When the question hour began, the opposition shouted slogans and disrupted the proceedings.
