Actor attack case: Police close in on 'VIP'

Kochi: Sources in the police suggest that they have identified the 'VIP' in the actor abduction case of 2017. However, they have not revealed the identity of the person.

Director Balachandra Kumar had told the police and media that a 'VIP' who is highly influential, arranged the visuals of the sexual assault for Dileep when he was out on bail. He also alleged that the 'VIP' is close to a minister. However, Kumar doesn't know him and the police were trying to find him.

Police collected photographs of close aides of Dileep and showed them to Kumar for identification. He raised his suspicion on one photograph, sources say.

The VIP allegedly enhanced the sound of the video in a studio in Kochi. Kumar said he was addressed as 'Ikka' in Dileep's house. He recognised the VIP's highly placed connections through the phone calls that he overheard. He sounded like a hotel or a travel agency owner, said Kumar.

Meanwhile, Mehboob, an NRI businessman, on Saturday, dismissed the news that he is the VIP mentioned in the statement of director Balachandra Kumar in connection with the actor abduction case. However, he admitted that he visited Dileep at his house to discuss business matters while actor Kavya Madhavan and their child were present.
