senior civil police officer R. Vinod
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala state police chief Loknath Behera on Sunday lauded the police officer whose averted timely intervention averted a major accident at Alathur in Palakkad district.
The DGP issued an order to provide a certificate of appreciation and Rs 3,000 to R. Vinod, a senior civil police officer and a driver attached to the Alathur highway police department for his timely intervention.
The incident took place at Swathi junction in Alathur on Friday. Vinod was waiting on a pocket road for the signal to turn green. At that time, he noticed a container lorry plying on the highway towards Thrissur dangerously moving towards the roadside. There were several vehicles in front of the lorry and the driver had collapsed on the steering wheel.
On seeing this, Vinod opened the door of the container lorry, jumped inside and applied the brakes. Meanwhile, the lorry driver, a native of Uttar Pradesh, fell onto Vinod’s body.
The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.
