DGP directs to book non-bailable offence against Sriram Venkitaraman
Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera has directed to charge non-bailable offence against Survey Director Sriram Venkitaraman for overspeeding under the influence of alcohol and causing accident. A journalist was killed after the car rammed into his bike.
Police is moving to arrest Sriram who is presently under treatment at a private hospital here. He is likely to be shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. His injuries are not fatal.
Thiruvananthapuram bureau chief of ‘Siraj’ daily K. M. Basheer was killed after the car driven by Sriram Venkitaraman hit his bike near Museum Junction on Saturday at about 1 am. The overspeeding car rammed into the bike.
Sriram Venkitaraman and his friend and model Wafa Firoz were travelling in the car. The police refused to take action against them at first. But they had to strengthen measures after public protest intensified.
