Devotees throng Chottanikkara Devi Temple for 'Illam Nira'
Chottanikkara: Devotees thronged Chottanikkara Devi Temple ahead of the first day of Chingam, to witness the 'Illam Nira' ritual conducted for prosperity and good harvest. The head priest of the temple initiated the rituals by offering a bunch of paddy crop to the deity.
In the morning, a ritualistic procession (ezhunnallathu) was conducted carrying the paddy crop, led by head priest T P Krishnan Namboothiri. The crop was then placed at the 'Chuttambalam' and a special puja was conducted. After the puja, the paddy crop was offered to the Devi.
Devotees received the paddy crop which was used in the puja as Prasada. They were brought from the farm of Alattu Velappan of Kunnamkulam. Many people also took part in the Annadanam held at the temple.
