Devotees celebrate Easter with religious fervour in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Christians across the world celebrate Easter on Sunday marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ as he rose from the dead on the third day after crucifixion.

The Sunday which falls after Good Friday is celebrated as Easter every year. Devotees also observe a 40-day period of fasting and prayer ahead of the celebration.

Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal George Alencherry, led the midnight mass at Mount St Thomas in Kakkanad, Kochi. Numerous devotees took part in the prayers which began around 11.30 pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the resurrection prayers led by Archbishop Dr Thomas J Netto began at St Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram around 10.30 pm the previous day.
