Devikulam sub-collector cancels all licenses granted to Golden Kayaloram builder's resort in Idukki
Idukki: The Devikulam sub-collector has taken action against a resort in Pallivasal owned by K. P. Varkey Group, the builders of the controversial Golden Kayaloram apartments in Maradu. The sub-collector issued an order to cancel all licenses granted to the resort by the panchayat. The action was taken following the Mathrubhumi report that the panchayat granted license to the illegally built resort.
According to a high court order issued in 2011, constructions in Munnar that does not have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the revenue department should not be granted any kind of license. Also, the revenue department had given a stop memo to the building in 2016 and 2017.
However, panchayat secretary Hari Purushothaman granted license to the resort overruling the court order. Also, he neglected the letter sent by the panchayat deputy director demanding strict implementation of the court’s directive.
As the new reports on granting license to the illegal building came out, Devikulam sub-collector sought an explanation from the panchayat secretary in this regard. But he failed to produce sufficient documents that justified the granting of license.
Following this, the sub-collector issued an order to cancel all licenses including permits granted for the building. It is pointed out in the sub-collector’s order that the action of the panchayat secretary justified the illegal construction of the building.
