Devaswom minister seeks Vigilance inquiry against Prayar, Ajay Tharayil
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran demanded Vigilance inquiry against former Travancore Devaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan and member Ajay Tharayil for allegedly producing fake documents of attending Devaswom board meeting at Thiruvananthapuram.
“Devaswom Vigilance will probe the allegation in the initial phase. Further investigation in the case will be demanded if needed. I never expect that both committed such a act,” said minister.
According to the minutes of Devaswom board meeting held at Thiruvananthapuram on August 16, 2016 Prayar Gopalakrishnan and Ajay Tharayil attended the meeting. The meeting has taken 26 important decisions including approval of maintenance works estimated Rs 1,15 crore.
Meanwhile, travel allowance documents submitted by both revealed that they have not attended the meeting. The documents prove that Prayar and Ajay visited Sabarimala on August 16, 2016. They have claimed travel allowance for this purpose.
It has been reported that if they claimed travel allowance after visiting Sabarimala, they have forged the minutes of the meeting. Hence, the documents have come under scanner of the board.
The government suspect the role of Devaswom Board secretary VS Jayakumar who is facing corruption charges in preparing the fake minutes of the meeting.
The meeting has taken decision on maintenance works, deposit of crores of rupees and temporary appointment. It has been suspected that the former TDB president and member have signed in the documents approving the decisions after the meeting. The chances of claiming travel allowance by producing fake details also being suspected.
It has also been found that both have signed the minutes of the meetings held in August-September and received travel allowance for the same. The government has collected the documents of the meeting and travel allowances.
