Devaswom board offers biscuit, horlicks to policemen on duty at Sabarimala 'Pathinettampadi'
Sabarimala: The Travancore Devaswom Board will distribute Horlicks and biscuits to the police officers on duty at the Pathinettampadi, the holy 18 steps in Sabarimala. The decision was taken on the basis of the special commissioner’s recommendation that something should be done to energise the policemen who help the pilgrims ascend the 18 steps.
The Devaswom Board will hand over the Horlicks ad biscuits to the police mess. The suggestion that banana and other provisions should be given to those who work on the Pathinettampadi also is under consideration.
The duty at Pathinettampadi is the hardest task for the policemen working in Sabarimala. During the rush hours, the pilgrims should be helped to ascend the steps faster. Ninety pilgrims should pass through the 18 steps in one minute, otherwise the queue will reach upto Pampa.
Ten policemen are doing this task simultaneously. They will not be able to work continuously for more than 20 minutes. The cops on duty will be replaced every 20 minutes. Every group is assigned duty at 18 steps for 4 hours. After four hours, another team of 20 policemen will take up the duty. Young policemen from AR camp are assigned duty at 18 steps.
