Kozhikode: A departmental investigation in the illegal building number allocation controversy recommended a comprehensive probe over the matter. It said that the Kozhikode Corporation office employees has not sustained efficiency in handling the software. The report was prepared following a probe led by scheduled castes development department (SSDD) north zone joint director D Saju, as per the orders of the director of local self government department. The report was submitted on Monday. The inefficiency of the staff and their interventions without realising the gravity of the issue were pointed as severe lapses in the report.
The report also mentioned the financial loss incurred by the public treasury and Corporation through the allocation of building numbers to the illegal constructions.
The activity was carried out by logging into the Sanchaya, the tax payment software, using ‘leaked username and passwords’. Hence, technical assistance will be required for a detailed probe in the irregularities found in the Corporation.
The report was submitted after collecting evidence from the Corporation secretary, staff at the zonal office and revenue employees. Feroke Assistant Commissioner had also submitted a report based on the directions of ADGP and IG.
Internal report of the Kozhikode Corporation will be submitted today.
The Vigilance team conducted a search in the Corporation office on Monday. The Ramanattukara municipality has recommended a Vigilance probe into the similar forgery that happened under their local body.
Meanwhile, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has remanded seven suspects who were arrested in relation to the case. The accused are the Corporation staff- NP Suresh, Anilkumar, former assistant engineer PCK Rajan, building owner K Aboobacker Siddique, middlemen M Yashir Ali, PK Faizal Ahammed and EK Mohammed Jiffri.
