Landslides in 4 places in Kozhikode; One dead


Kozhikode: Heavy rain on Wednesday night led to heavy destruction in the hilly areas of Kozhikode. Landslide happened at Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. In Kozhikode, land slide occurred at Kakkayam, Puloorampara, Karinchola, Chamal and Omassery.

Many persons were reported to be missing in the heavy rains that is lashing the district for the past few days. The Punnor river is overflowing. A nine-year-old died in Thamarasserydue to landslides.

Traffic on the Kozhikode-Kollegal national highway was disrupted as tree fell on the Thamarassery ghat road. Iruvanji river is overflowing in many areas. Farming areas are also under water.

Traffic has been affected in many areas.

A disaster management team will reach Kozhikode. The meeting will be held in Kozhikode Collectorate.

Heavy rain continues in hilly areas of Kannur and Thrissur.

The KSEB informed that they opened all shutters of Peringalkuthu dam. The water level in the Chalakkudi river has gone upto 75 feet high.

The collector has announced a holiday for all institutions including professional colleges in Kozhikode on Thursday. All educational institutions except professional colleges in Wayanad are given leave. Educational institutions in Vellarikundu thaluk in Kasargod district will also remain closed. PSC and university examinations aren’t affected.
