Depression: Heavy rain likely in state till Aug 8


Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode and Kannur on Tuesday and in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Monsoon is intensifying in Kerala as depression was formed in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain is likely to occur till August 8. Yellow and Orange alerts have been sounded in various districts from Sunday to Wednesday.

Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode and Kannur on Tuesday and in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday. Yellow alert is applicable for other districts on Wednesday. Heavy or extremely heavy rain is likely in these places.

In view of gusty wind, fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea in Karnataka shores from Sunday to Wednesday and on Kerala shores from Monday to Wednesday.

It has been assessed that a depression will be formed near the West Bengal coast within next 48 hours. This will cause heavy rain in Kerala. The depression would not turn into a cyclone, but will move to the land by August 8.

August 4 – Kannur, Kasaragod

August 5 – Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod

August 6 – Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kasaragod

August 7 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram
