Thiruvananthapuram: B Sandhya, Director General of Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, has accused the departments under the state government of failing to implement the directives issued by the fire and safety wing. Despite conducting regular fire audits, the departments have shown reluctance in adhering to the guidelinesshe said.

Sandhya has issued a stern warning to the departments, cautioning them about the potential for severe catastrophes if they continue to neglect compliance with the directives. Sandhya emphasized that the Fire and Rescue Services can only notify the departments, but the responsibility for implementation lies with them.

She warned that the fire and safety systems should be set up strictly at old and new buildings in the state. In several cases, the flat owners would establish the fire and safety systems in the building, but fail to renew the No Objection Certificate from the department. She urged the public to be alert regarding the fire and safety norms.
