Denied more time, Bineesh Kodiyeri appears before ED for questioning
Kochi: Bineesh Kodiyeri appeared at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here for questioning on Wednesday morning. Bineesh had sought six days time to appear before ED for questioning. However, the officials rejected the request.
ED is planning to question Bineesh regarding hawala-benami deals. The officials had issued a notice to Bineesh asking him to appear at ED’s Kochi office at 11 am on Wednesday for questioning. Following this Bineesh sought more time to appear for questioning. However, the ED denied this and directed Bineesh to appear for questioning on Wednesday itself.
The ED investigation is centred around establishments with links to the CPI (M) state secretary’s son.
Gold Smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh had stated that she received commission from UAFX Solutions in Thiruvananthapuram. ED has learned that Abdul Latheef, one of the directors at UAFX Solutions, had close connections with Bineesh Kodiyeri. The ED will question Bineesh in this regard.
Investigations had revealed that Bineesh was part of two companies that were registered in 2015. But both are non functional at present. The ED is investigating if these companies were started to conduct illegal financial deals.
The revenue and expenditure details of the companies were not submitted and their licenses had been cancelled. The ED will investigate the real motive behind starting the companies and whether transactions were made in their name.
It is learned that the gold smuggling gang had links with drug smugglers. Bineesh Kodieyeri’s name was mentioned in the statement given by Muhammed Anoop, who was arrested in the Bengaluru drug case. Later, it was revealed that Bineesh had helped Anoop financially before the latter started his business.
