Denial of adjournment motion over Walayar case: Oppn walks out of assembly
Thiruvananthapuram: The Opposition members walked out of the assembly in protest over not considering the adjournment motion in connection with the Walayar case. The Speaker refused to consider the adjournment motion requested by MLA V. T. Balram pointing out that the topic was discussed earlier.
V. T. Balram gave the notice for adjournment motion stating that the chairman of District Child Welfare Committee appeared for the accused in the Walayar case and that the government is sabotaging functioning of the committee.
However, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan pointed out that the notice filed by Balram includes nothing more than the facts mentioned by MLA Shafi Parambil on the first day of the assembly session.
Following this, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala demanded that the adjournment motion be considered. The opposition members gathered at the well of the assembly and protested carrying placards.
Nevertheless, the Speaker did not change his decision and the opposition walked out after this. Ramesh Chennithala responded that the Speaker’s action of denying the rights of opposition was unfortunate.
