Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Karshaka Sangham (AIKS affiliate) has announced a day and night strike and a march near Raj Bhavan on May 25 and 26, alleging neglect towards rubber farmers by the union government.

M Vijayakumar, the president of the Kerala Karshaka Sangham state committee, made the announcement at a press conference.

The strike will be inaugurated by Kisan Sabha general secretary Vijoo Krishnan on the 25, and the Raj Bhavan March on 26 will be inaugurated by Kisan Sabha president Ashok Dhawale.

Rubber farmers will promote the strike through ‘long marches’, house visits, and pamphlet distribution in all districts. The protestors want the support price of rubber to be Rs 300, rubberize the roads on national highways, and restore financial support for repeated cultivation, among other demands.

Several members of the Karshaka Sangham state committee, including Valsan Panoli, SK Preeja, VS Padmakumar, Prof MT Joseph, and others participated in the press conference.
