Defeat in Kundara and Karunagapally: CPM demotes two district secretariat members
Kollam: The CPM demoted two of its party members of the Kollam district secretariat in connection with the party’s defeat in the assembly elections in Kundara and Karunagapally constituencies. The party members have been demoted to CPM Area Committee. The District Secretariat and the party committee, in the presence of state acting secretary A. Vijayaraghavan, on Friday decided to issue a warning to four leaders, including J. Mercykutty Amma's husband Thulaseedhara Kurup.
NS Prasannakumar (Kundara) and PR Vasanthan (Karunagappally), who were in charge of elections, were removed from the district secretariat and demoted to the area committee.
Apart from Thulaseedhara Kurup, district committee member R Biju and area secretaries SL Sajikumar (Kundara) and PK Balachandran (Karunagapally) will also be issued a warning. However, the party didn’t take any action against Sooranadu area secretary PB Satyadevan after he gave a proper explanation to the party.
Following defeat in Kundara and Karunagapally constituencies, CPM had appointed a committee to study the defeat. Seven leaders were found guilty by the party committee and were asked for explanation.
The CPM suffered a major defeat in the Kundara and Karunagapally constituencies. The defeat of former minister Mercykutty Amma at Kundara led the state leadership to take stern action against the shortcomings in these constituencies.
