Decomposed carcass of wild elephant found in Kozhikode river
Koorachundu: The decomposed carcass of a wild elephant was found near Urakkuzhi in Kariyathumpara. The carcass was stuck between rocks.
Three days ago, the internal organs of an animal were found in Kariyathumpara river. This resulted in a foul smell engulfing the area. Following complaints from residents, Forest Officials from Kakkayam examined the area. However, the officials did not confirm that the animal was an elephant.
The carcass, which is around 7 days old, was found during a search on Monday evening. The shutters of Kakkayam dam were opened one week ago following heavy rains. It is assumed that the elephant was swept away by the currents.
The carcass will be buried after a post mortem on Tuesday, said District Forest Officer M. Rajeevan.
