Decision to conduct wedding ceremonies at Guruvayur temple withdrawn


Earlier, the Devaswom board had informed after lockdown relaxations were announced that wedding ceremonies can be conducted on the temple premises adhering to rules from May 21 onwards.

Guruvayur: The decision to allow devotees to conduct wedding ceremonies at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple has been withdrawn, stated the Devaswom chairman. He made it clear that the decision was taken as the government did not grant permission for conducting marriage ceremonies in the temple.

Earlier, the Devaswom board had informed after lockdown relaxations were announced, that wedding ceremonies can be conducted on the temple premises adhering to rules from May 21 onwards. However, now the Devaswom Board made it clear that this decision has been withdrawn.

As per the COVID lockdown norms, religious places are not allowed to open and gathering of people for any event is banned in order to prevent disease transmission. However, marriage ceremonies were granted permission during the lockdown period with participation of less than 20 people and ensuring social distance.
