Thamarassery: A day after announcing a 'user fee’ for visitors to Wayanad Ghat road, the Puduppady grama panchayat has cancelled the decision.

Charging a fee from visitors to the Ghat road violates the rules, district collector N Tej Lohit Reddy and PWD executive engineer K Vinayaraj had informed the local body.

The panchayat had decided to collect Rs 20 per vehicle from those who were visiting Wayanad Ghat road from February 1 onwards as part of the initiative to reduce waste generation in Thamarassery Churam.

Under the project 'Azhakode Churam', the panchayat had decided to field Haritha Karama Sena members to collect fees at major viewpoints on the Ghat.

It was proposed to use the funds to clean the Ghat and ensure it remained free of waste.
