Decide on Tribunal order, says Jacob Thomas; sends letter to govt
Kochi: DGP Jacob Thomas has forwarded a letter asking the state government to decide on the Tribunal’s order to reinstate him in service forthwith. The letter was sent to the chief secretary and the public administration department based on the direction of the Administrative members of the Bench.
The Central Administrative Tribunal had directed the government to set aside the suspension of Jacob Thomas and reinstate him in service. It also directed that if there are no vacancies that exists in police force, he may be assigned an appropriate post equivalent to his present rank of DGP.
The court ruled that continuance of suspension period is not necessary and is not right. The government was not able to prove the charges, the tribunal added. The tribunal’s order comes after the counsel of Jacob Thomas contended that the allegations were baseless.
Meanwhile, the state government said it is yet to decide on the reinstatement and may move the apex court. The state government has taken a stance not to restore his former position soon based on the tribunal verdict. Further steps will be taken based on the direction from advocate general after studying the verdict.
