Thiruvananthapuram: Though Adarsh received kidney of Jerry hoping to get a new lease of life, he could not enjoy it for longer. 31-year-old Adarsh from Nedukadu of Thiruvanathapuram succumbed to heart attack a day after his kidney transplant surgery was successfully completed.
The deceased Adarsh G Nair had undergone the kidney transplant surgery on July 31 at Thiruvananthapuram medical college. After the surgery, he was shifted to Intensive Care Unit on August 1 Sunday and later suffered a cardiac arrest.
Adarsh, who went to gulf with high hopes on his career, was struck with fate within one year. Kidney problems started to trouble him and he was left with no option other than returning to Kerala. Since then he was going through treatments including dialysis.
For the last four years, he and his family have been going through a crisis but the option of kidney transplantation lit up their hopes. The huge treatment cost was arranged with help of his friends and relatives. The kidney transplantation was scheduled after registering under Kerala government’s organ sharing network Mrithasanjeevani.
The kidney of Jerry Varghese, who was braindead after an accident at Mannanthala, was transplanted to Adarsh on Saturday. Kidneys, liver and corneas of Jerry were donated to five people including Adarsh.
Doctors informed that the surgery was successful. They even talked to Adarsh after the surgery. However, the unexpected cardiac arrest shattered the dreams of the family. The deceased is survived by father Govindan Nair, mother Usha, and sister Vrindha. Last rites were held on Sunday.
