Palakkad: DYFI unit secretary, who went absconding following the murder of Yuva Morcha leader in Palakkad, has surrendered to police. Mithun, unit secretary from Pavadi, surrendered on Sunday night. With this, the number of those arrested in the case has increased to seven.
Police had earlier arrested six people, including Mithun's brother Nithin in connection with the murder.
Arun Kumar, secretary of the Yuva Morcha panchayat committee, was stabbed by a mob during a temple event. During the temple festival in Pazhampalakode, there were clashes between the two groups. This skirmish eventually led to Arun being stabbed by the accused. Later, he died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nemmara.
However, the police said that the incident was not a political murder. According to police, the clash was between relatives and members of the same community. However, the BJP denied these claims and alleged that Arun Kumar was murdered deliberately. Meanwhile, the CPM district secretary stated that the BJP wanted to politicize the incident.
