Thiruvananthapuram: The death of 23-year-old Anju and her nine-month-old son David at Kadinamkulam here have stoked many claims and allegations.
According to Anju’s father Pramod, her husband Raju Joseph is the prime suspect. Pramod claimed that Raju had been physically and mentally torturing Anju. He further alleged that Raju used to thrash her even during his presence. Raju had other relationship and Anju used to question him, he added.
The accusations come at a time when the police have been probing the matter in detail.
Anju was found burnt to death inside the latrine of Raju's residence on Tuesday. Her son, David, was also found with burn injuries. David was rushed to hospital and received life-saving treatment on a ventilator However, he too succumbed by Wednesday morning.
The distressing episode came to light on Tuesday at around 7 pm, when Anju's husband, Raju, returned home in the evening. Initial reports said, Raju immediately sought assistance from their neighbours and transported the injured infant to a nearby private hospital. While neighbours maintained that there is confusion surrounding how the fire broke out in the latrine. The allegations of Anju’s father also become relevant at this juncture.
The exact cause remains unknown. Raju stated that he was outside watching a football match and was unaware of the incident until he returned home during the half-time interval.
Police have not given any official version of deaths. They have not yet commented on the husband’s claim either.
