Death of Palakkad policemen by electrocution: Man who set trap for wild boar outside house arrested

Palakkad: A man has been arrested in relation to the death of two policemen of Muttikulangara KAP-2 battalion. He is accused of setting a trap for wild boar from which policemen are believed to be electrocuted. He is charged with murder and evidence tampering.

Muttikulangara native Suresh, the man in custody, was previously accused by the forest department of catching wild boar.

According to police, he has confessed that he set up the trap and the policemen died of electrocution from that wire.

He turned on the connection to the trap which was placed outside the boundary wall of his house at around 10 in the night and went to bed. He found the policemen lying unconscious when he woke up in the middle of night. He then dumped the bodies on the paddy field by carrying it on a pull cart.

Hawildars Ashokan and Mohandas were found dead in a paddy field near the police camp on Thursday morning at around 9. They had gone missing on Wednesday night. The district police chief and other police officers confirmed that the policemen were present in the camp till that time. However, it is not clear how they exited from the camp that is highly secured.

The bodies were located about 60 metres apart from each other.
